Music Groups That Should Have Stayed Together

Music groups never seem to last. It is quite rare to see a group that has stood the test of time and stayed together over the years. In most cases, individual goals come before the group's goals and members have to split or go on a break. Here is a list of groups we wish could have stayed together.

1.Kleptomaniax

Collins Majale(Collo), Robert Manyasa(Robba) and Nyamari Ongega( Nyashinsky) formed the group when they were still at Nairobi School. They were signed to Ogopa Records and gave us songs such as Twendelee, Swing Swing and Psycho. Remember how badass they looked in the Twendelee video with their vests and scarves, playing poker with females surrounding them. And the punch lines in that song. Man! Did you know that they had been nominated for MTV Europe Music Awards for Best African Act? Didn't think so. Last we heard, Nyashinsky went to the states and Collo, self proclaimed rap king has been releasing solo singles. Whatever happened to Robba? I had the hugest crush on him and his cornrows!

2. K-South

The founding fathers of Kenyan hip hop: Bamboo and Doobiez. You might know Doobiez as Abbas Kubaff or simply as Abbas. Their first album Nairoberry was released in 2002 and had songs like Tabia Mbaya and Illektrik Posse. Remember those? No? How old are you? Their second album came out in 2004 and had the song Kapuka. Yes. The group coined that phrase. Sadly, they disbanded in 2005 when Bamboo decided he wanted to be a serious Christian. Abbas released a couple of single songs. He didn't do so badly. As for Bamboo? Well, remember Compe? His Instagram insists that new music is coming soon. We are waiting. He seems to be doing well in the events business though.

3. Deux Vultures.

Cheki monalisa anovo tingisha...

Remember that? Colonel Mustapha and Nasty Thomas were killing it back then. The group originally consisted of up to 20 members before it was trimmed down and renamed to Deux Vultures. Since 2009, the duo has not released any song. Colonel Mustapha, who has been releasing solo songs in a bid to revive his career insists that the group is not dead and that they will release something soon.

4. Camp Mulla.

When they came out in 2009, I thought they were so cool. I couldn't get enough of them. The alternative hip hop group comprised of Karun, Thee MC Africa, Shappa Man Mykie Toni and Kus Ma. These kids were nominated for a horde of awards including CHAT Awards(Remember this?) and the BET Awards for Best International Act. Their album came out in 2012 after which they decided to go on a hiatus. Since then, Karun, their lead singer produced her solo album, Sun and Moon and Thee MC Africa released his EP, both in 2014. Thee MC Africa and Karun are also part of Cosmic Homies, a musical collective.
