We have lost many, the likes of Janet Kanini, comedian Ayeiya, Chris Msando among others this year.

Kamukunji MP Yusuf Hassan is among the many who are grateful for the gift of life and here's what he wrote on social media;

"It has been a bittersweet year but as we approach the tail-end of 2017, I have a lot to be grateful for.

I had the opportunity to defend my Kamukunji seat in the August 2017 elections and the privilege and honour of being re-elected for the third term to the Kenyan parliament. My thanks to the thousands of Kamukunjians who voted for me.

In November, I had the last rod or piece of metal successfully removed from my leg at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York.

He continued: I’m grateful to Dr Robert Rozbruch, my special surgeon, who salvaged my leg and helped restore my shattered life, following the serious injuries I sustained in the 2012 bomb attack in Eastleigh. He’s no doubt the best orthopaedic surgeon in the world.

Wishing you all a new year of joy, good health, friendship, warmth, love and peace."
