It’s a sad month for the football fraternity across the world as they mourn the untimely demise of Davide Astori.
Davide Astori, who was the captain of Italy’s top football league ACF Fiorentina was found dead in a hotel room after he did not turn up for breakfast and his calls went unanswered.
“The lad did not turn up to the team breakfast at 9.30am and he was usually the first to arrive.
So they went to check on him. Davide was sleeping in a room on his own. The body has been taken for an autopsy, which I think will be conducted today,” Udine prosecutor Antonio De Nicolo told The Sun.
The father of one is believed to have died of ‘cardio-circulatory arrest due to natural causes’ – a type of heart attack – but that he showed ‘no warning signs’ of having any illness.
The club broke the sad news in a statement which read:
“A profoundly shocked Fiorentina are compelled to announce that their captain Davide Astori, who was struck by an unexpected sudden illness, has passed away.”

The president of the Italian Olympic Committee Giovanni Malago Astori’s salary will go to his wife Francesca Fioretti, daughter and family.
“Fiorentina have renewed Astori’s contract. His salary will go to his family, his partner and his daughter. It’s a lovely gesture from the Della Valle family.”
