Here is the official statement

"ACCIDENT ON MOMBASA ROAD ON FRIDAY 2ND DECEMBER, 2016 AT 8.45 P.M. BY OUR BUS FROM TOWN TO UTAWALA.

As we send our heartfelt condolences to the family of Mr. Christopher Ochieng Otiende for this very unfortunate incident, we at Kenya Bus Service Management Ltd would like to clarify to the family, our passengers and the public that Mr. Otiende was not pushed out of the bus by our crew as earlier alleged by the Widow.

Contrary to what has been reported on social media, by Sheila Maxellen Blue, the widow of Mr. Christopher Ochieng Otiende as quoted by Mpasho, "This is what those KBS savages did to my husband aFter they pitishad him from where he was supposed to alight. His crime was kubishana na hao. Those sons of the devil pushed him out of the moving bus.

The information we have from passengers on the bus who were also at the scene and have even recorded statements with Police at Industrial Area Police station (who arrived immediately at the scene of accident) and NTSA officers who arrived later, indicates that Mr. Otiende was on phone and suddenly realized that he had passed his stage. He stood up from his seat and headed towards the door. The conductor was still at the back issuing tickets.

When he got to the door, he opened it while the bus was still moving. An argument then ensued between him and some passengers who were seated near the door telling him to close the door since they were feeling cold.

He did not heed their pleas but still stood at the door while it was open and the bus still moving. This enraged one passenger who decided to confront him and in the process they started shouting at each other and went in to a scuffle. They engaged in a very heated argument and by then the driver was slowing down to pull off the road so that he could stop.

Suddenly, Mr. Otiende abused the passenger who they were in a scuffle with, as he tried to jump out of the bus. The passenger then pushed him out of the bus and he fell out and was run over by the bus. Immediately the bus came to a stop and after realizing what had happened, the passenger who had pushed Mr. Otiende, got off the bus and run away and disappeared into the night. Some passengers tried to run after him but they could not catch up.

Our Operations Manager visited the Industrial Area Police Station on Saturday morning and met the family members present who also heard the version from the passengers on the bus, some of them even volunteered and recorded statements with the Industrial Area Police and have even given their Telephone Numbers to the Police and ourselves for anyone to corroborate their statements on this accident.
