He is sexy, classy and rich but that has not always been the case for Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho. Growing up he struggled like most Kenyans.

Speaking during a recent interview on Churchill show, Joho shared.

“I used to carry heavy sacks whenever goods entered the port.

I remember that is how I met Somalis who used to import stuff to Kenya and promised myself that I would never be employed.”

Talking about his relationship with his late mum, Joho said,

'My mum was my best friend, she shaped me to be who I am today, I have never had a friend as close as my mum.

She brought us up the hard way, the hardest moment of my life was seeing my mum arrested for not having a licence.

I could see her being whisked away and there is nothing I could do. She had put a table outside our house selling tomatoes and onions.

Just thinking about it still hurts me.'

In a past interview, Governor Joho had narrated of how his family thought of his intention to vie for a political seat as a joke.

“WHEN I VIED FOR MP IN KISAUNI, PEOPLE LAUGHED AT ME. EVEN MY OWN FAMILY SAID I WAS A JOKER. ONLY A FEW FRIENDS BELIEVED IN ME,” JOHO SAID.

The governor said his determination and ambition pushed him to governorship and will propel him to the presidency.

“IT IS BECAUSE MY INTENTIONS HAVE ALWAYS BEEN PURE.

I HAVE NO ILL-WILL TOWARDS ANYBODY. THAT IS WHY I SUCCEED,” JOHO SAID.

Joho is a favourite among women thanks to his good looks, his toned physique and obviously his money.

Despite him being in the limelight he has managed to keep his family (wife and kids) away from the limelight.

He is a lover of designer shoes and clothing and this has left many tongues wagging but like they say, tumia pesa mpaka ikuzoee.
