A woman charged with stealing a three-year-old boy belonging to her neighbour told a court she committed the crime to please her estranged husband.

Susan Nyaboke, 26, was accused of kidnapping the son of Esther Wanjiru on April 19 in Embakasi.

It is understood that Nyaboke had lost a child in miscarriage and wanted another to please her husband.

Court document say the boy was playing outside and when he failed to return, his mother started looking for him.

After some time, it was also noted Nyaboke was gone. The mother telephoned her to ask about the child but she did not pick calls.

The accused had gone into hiding at village in Kisii. On June 8, she was arrested and brought back to Nairobi.

She denied the charges before chief magistrate Heston Nyaga and was released on Sh50,000 bail. The case will be mentioned on June 28.
