‘Miracle babies’ preacher Bishop Gilbert Juma Deya who faces child theft charges asked the state to supply him with the DNA results from the government chemist.

He denies charges of stealing five children between 1999 and 2004 in Nairobi. He says he was in the US.

The DNA of the ‘miracle babies’ is to be compared with that of their infertile ‘parents’.

Deya said the charges against him are defective since they were committed when he was in the US.

The charge sheet shows the offences were committed in 2004 at a house in Mountain View estate, Nairobi, where police found five ‘miracle children’ allegedly stolen from unknown parents.

The preacher’s wife, Mary Deya, was jailed in 2014 for stealing a baby at Kenyatta National Hospital in 2005.

She was sentenced to three years by High Court judge Msagha Mbogholi.

She was jailed in 2011 for stealing a child and giving false information but she appealed the sentence.
