Comic Owago Onyiro is the latest victim of a rapidly growing trend whereby rogue bloggers “kill” well-known public figures for traction.

A Facebook post claiming the Churchill Show comic had given up the ghost left a section of fans worried sick over the weekend.

The post which was shared to Group Kenya – a popular page on the platform – bore the title “SAD: Kenya Wakes Up To Shocking News, Churchill Show Comedian Is DEAD

It elicited mixed reactions from social media users. Those who believed that he had passed away sent their condolence messages hailing him as a great entertainer.

But as it turns out, nothing could be further from the truth. Owago is alive and kicking, he even posted a photo on his Instagram page a few hours ago.

Owago joins a long list of local celebrities who have been killed by the internet over the past few months.

In December last year, Mambo Mseto host Willy M. Tuva came out to rubbish claims that he had died after an unreliable blog posted a story claiming he was one of the casualties in the horrific accident that occurred along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway.

A while back, news that Uncle Fred Obachi Machoka, who refers to himself as “the blackest man in black Africa” had died shocked Kenyans. It later turned out to be a hoax!
