Tears Of Sorrow

Domestic violence and sexual abuse cases have become rampant in the country. Thousands of incidences happen daily; hundreds of cases are reported daily, but only a few are followed up. Out of fear of exposing the perpetrators, justice is hardly served in the end. A few months back, a Kenyan woman made news after she was beaten by her lover, leaving her for dead, while he claimed to have immunity, but thanks to Nairobi Women’s Hospital the lady was saved from the brutal man.

Nairobi Women’s Hospital is always at the forefront in fighting all forms of abuse through the Gender Violence Recovery Centre (GVRC). Consisting of 5 centres; Hurlingham, Adams, Ongata Rongai, Kitengela and Nakuru, GVRC’s main motto is bringing back the meaning of life to survivors and their families. Despite all the  efforts in trying to save our mothers and children, Alberta Wambua, the Executive Director says that they still face a lot of challenges such as lengthy justice systems, the cost of medical treatment being too high and secondary trauma just to mention but a few.
