These are tough times for the media industry. With the change in the technology, the modus operandi of the media has to change completely.

All media houses have to realign themselves and their strategies based on the ever changing digital world. An Royal Media Services is no exception. Based on this restructuring, the media house that owns TV, radio and various digital platforms will have to lay off some workers.

An internal memo sent out to all staff members of Royal Media Services, written by the group's managing director Wachira Waruru contained the bad news.

It read,

"The past two years have witnessed various developments within the broadcasting industry that have adversely affected our environment.

As a result, the company is left with no choice but to reorganize it’s operations. This includes rationalization of the various departments. Unfortunately and regrettably, the action will result in the reduction of our workforce through job redundancies. The management realizes that this EXERCISE will be very difficult for the affected members of staff and their families.

The EXERCISE will be undertaken within the provisions of law and the company will provide the affected staff with the necessary support to help them manage the transition. Should the business environment improve and the need for hiring arises, the affected member of staff will be considered."
