Activists have demanded the arrest of suspects in the alleged defilement of a student of Moi Girls School in Nairobi.

They held demonstrations in the CBD today before handing a petition to Education CS Amina Mohamed.

They want justice to prevent similar incidents.

Cecilia Ayoti, leader of the Kibra Young Women Network, claimed some of the school's parents had been threatened by unknown people.

Ayoti regretted that many sexual offenders in Kenya go unpunished.

"If we do not act on such incidents and let the perpetrators walk free, we risk future and worse attacks. We are calling on the CS to give this matter weight."

The group also called for tighter security at all schools.

The school was reopened on Sunday but some parents said they would not take their children back.

They accused the school's management of covering up the matter and asked for copies of the report on the fire that left 10 students dead in September last year.

On Thursday, the Cabinet Secretary appointed a nine-member interim board to oversee the management of the school.

The team is made up of senior officials drawn from the ministry and the Teachers Service Commission.
