Residents of the leafy suburbs of Kilimani have petitioned the government to see too it that clubs, learning institutions and churches that are located in the area are closed.

According to them, the noise pollution has become unbearable and they have had to forego many nights of sleep because of this.

Speaking to journalists, Evelyne Ndirangu, an area resident, said sleeping in her own house has become a difficult task especially from Friday to Sunday.

Her house is located a few meters from the International Leadership University (ILU) where different churches practice for their Sunday prayers.

Ms Ndirangu said the drumming starts as early as 7:30 am adding that covering herself up or using earplugs was of no help since she would still hear the noise.

"Its very irritating. Even if you were not asleep, you were carrying on with your normal business such noise is very irritating. You even get a headache! Its just too much." she said.

She also said that she spent up to Sh30,000 to put an aluminum window outside the room that is closest to the noise in a bid to minimize it, but that didn't help the situation.

Residents have had to use blankets, mattresses and duvets to block the windows so that they can get some sleep but their efforts bore no fruits.

Some of the clubs that are located in the residential area include B-Club and Kizza Lounge - which are both on Galana Plaza.
