The Kenya Sevens Rugby Team posted mixed results on the first day of the Las Vegas IRB Series.

The first match saw the national side take on Canada a game they won 22-21 thanks to a late try by Billy Odhiambo.

A slow start by Shujaa saw Canada take a 14-12 lead going into the half time but Kenya showed their resilience after the break as they scored two tries thanks to Dan Sikuta and Billy Odhiambo to edge Canada by one point.

Kenya went into the second match of the day against Argentina knowing a win would send them to the quarter finals but defence lapses saw them concede two tries as they trailed their opponents 14-7 at half time.

The second half saw Argentina add their third try after another defence lapse leaving Kenya with a huge task to win the match.

Billy Odhiambo once again took advantage of confusion from Argentina to score under the posts as Kenya reduced the score line to 19-14.

Kenya then started to stage a comeback towards stoppage time but their efforts bore no fruits and Argentina had the final say.

The group is still wide open after Canada staged shocking comeback to beat England 15-12 and with all teams registering one defeat and one win, the last two will be decided tomorrow when Kenya play England and Argentina will take on Canada.

The best two teams will advance to the main cup quarter finals and Kenya coach Felix Ochieng will hope to work on key areas including the defence ahead of the crucial tie against Wellington IRB series finalists.
