Gospel artiste Mercy Masika has opened up on how growing up with pimples made think she was ugly.
Having a dark skin then also affected her.
Mercy who is well known for songs such as ‘Nikupendeze’ said,
‘When growing up (only then not now )I thought ugly was on my face because I was dark and full of pimples..
But I realize the day I found God I found myself.
So I keep looking at me and saying truly with a sincere heart Dark is lovely.
I am actually grateful…#darkislovely.
Tell your dark daughters they are pretty coz its true’
Mercy is not the only celebrity who felt ugly in the past.
Jacky Vike also known as Awinja had narrated how her jaw made her insecure.
‘So wacheni niwapatie ka story, You would never have seen a close up picture of myself because I was always told ‘Ukona JAWS MBAYA! JAWS ZA WABABA,
JAWS ZINAKAA MBAO IMECHONGWA , JAWS ZA KANYE WEST, JAWS ZA MTU HAJAKULA MIEZI KADHAA, JAWS UGLY!!! Etc etc… 😳’
I would only show a close up on video since I knew how to maneuver and hide them, I would always have long braids/wigs to hide, some make up artist used to tell me “you have a beautiful jawline” .
I used to ignore because I thought ni chocha tu to make me feel good.’ She shared
Awinja went to add,
I later realized this is something I cannot change, and therefore I chose to Embrace them, by donning short hair or show them more.
Clearly people may make you hate some part of yourself so you grow up knowing, your forehead is ugly or Arms or legs etc, what I can say is, DO NOT ALLOW!
Those comments to get to you because they will be affecting you as you carry them, so here Iam accepting each and every “Flaw” Pole pole❤️ #wcw
Inooro TV Presenter Muthoni wa Mukiri had also shared how she was bullied for having a pointed nose.
I WAS BULLIED COZ I HAVE A POINTED NOSE. IMAGINE! I HATED MY NOSE UNTIL AFTER HIGHSCHOOL WHEN I reaLIZED IT’S BEAUTIFUL AND I CAME TO LOVE IT. I THINK IT’S THE MOST BEAUTIFUL FEATURE ON MY FACE.
What’s that one body part that made you feel ugly and you have come to accept?
Keep in mind ‘Kazi ya mungu haina makosa’.
