Many men have decided they are tired of burning their wallets trying to impress their women on Valentine's Day and have all headed for a virtual 'men's conference'.

There's no such thing as a men's conference happening today, but men have taken to social media to protest against Valentine's Day with a light touch.

Men afraid of going broke have told their partners they will not be available to take them for expensive dinners, buy fine wine or indulge in any other money demanding activity on Valentine's Day because they are attending the 'serious' men's conference.

There has even been a fake schedule of activities for the conference that has been doing the rounds on social media.

Here are some of the funniest comments under the 'men's conference' hashtag.

Many men have tried to come up with reasons as to why Valentine's Day should not be celebrated. Excuses include that it is just a fake display of affection. These men argue that they show their love throughout the year and there's no need to put pressure on them on one day, yet they will still be expected to treat their women long after the day has passed.
