The future of news is digital; that's why leading media houses like Radio Africa Group, BBC and CNN are leading the way to the future. This means that the traditional media i.e. print and radio will have to integrate digital strategies in order to keep at pace with the changing technology and innovation trends.

This is happening in Uganda, where New Vision, a leading media house is moving to equip its journalists with Smartphones to help them cover news stories real time. With the new devices, they will be able to take pictures, record videos and type scripts for quick upload to the news websites owned by the company.

One of the journalists who went through the process was mesmerized by the versatility - hence improved functionality - that the new development brought.

“Our company has introduced smartphones for journalists and I am now using it to do the interview and file the story,” Ashiraf Kasirye, the journalist said. He was on an assignment to cover a story about the low cost restaurants in Kampala.

However, he notes that with the Smartphone comes new challenges, as he was used to only carry his recorder, put it on the table and do interviews. Now, he has to take video, capture moments as well as type. It's gotten busier for him.
