The 25-year-old student was shot after attempting to gain entry into the house on the hill. Police reports indicate that he was carrying a knife when he trespassed at State House.
In an interview with Citizen TV, Mr Bera described his son as a ‘good and humble boy’, condemned his actions and told the public not to capitalize on his situation. He said,
WHAT HE DID WAS NOT CORRECT. HE WAS NOT DOING IT OUT OF HIS GOOD MIND. IF HE WAS SOBER OR OKAY HE COULD NOT HAVE DONE THAT. MY BOY HAS NEVER DONE THAT. EVEN IN SCHOOL, HE WAS A VERY DISCIPLINED BOY, I FOUND HIM AS ONE OF THE BEST BOYS I HAD BEFORE HE DEVELOPED THAT KIND OF SICKNESS. I CALL IT SICKNESS BECAUSE MENTAL ILLNESS IS A PROBLEM.
PLEASE DON’T CAPITALIZE ON THE PROBLEM MY BOY IS IN RIGHT NOW.
He also begged the president to forgive his son.
THIS YOUNG MAN, MY SON CAN CONTRIBUTE A LOT TO THIS COUNTRY AND COMMUNITY IF GIVEN MEDICATION. HE’S A RESOURCEFUL BOY IF HE CAN FINISH HIS COURSE [MEDICAL ENGINEERING] WHICH HE IS SUPPOSED TO BE FINISHING IN JULY. HE HAS NEVER BEEN A CRIMINAL. HELP THE BOY president Uhuru.

He defended his daughter until the end. He was branded a hero when he defended his daughter telling the police that Jacque had nothing to do with Monica Kimani’s death.
He said, “Jacque was a victim of love and the only reason she was arrested over the murder is because of her celebrity status.”
A few days after she was released on bail, a few days later her parents surprised her on her birthday.
