Fathers are very important figures in a child's life. Their presence in a child's life has a great impact and one David Bera, the father of Brian Kibet Bera has been branded a hero by Kenyans.

The 25-year-old student was shot after attempting to gain entry into the house on the hill. Police reports indicate that he was carrying a knife when he trespassed at State House.

In an interview with Citizen TV, Mr Bera described his son as a 'good and humble boy', condemned his actions and told the public not to capitalize on his situation. He said,

WHAT HE DID WAS NOT CORRECT. HE WAS NOT DOING IT OUT OF HIS GOOD MIND. IF HE WAS SOBER OR OKAY HE COULD NOT HAVE DONE THAT. MY BOY HAS NEVER DONE THAT. EVEN IN SCHOOL, HE WAS A VERY DISCIPLINED BOY, I FOUND HIM AS ONE OF THE BEST BOYS I HAD BEFORE HE DEVELOPED THAT KIND OF SICKNESS. I CALL IT SICKNESS BECAUSE MENTAL ILLNESS IS A PROBLEM.

He also begged the president to forgive his son.
