A ward rep has been remanded for 7 days for defiling a 17-year-old minor.

A Nyamira court declined to release on bond a Member of the area County Assembly accused with defilement of a 17-year-old minor last week.

Magwagwa ward Member of the County Assembly (MCA) Fred Omayio will be detained for seven more days after spending the weekend in police custody to allow police conduct further investigations on the said allegations.

Omayio was arrested on Saturday and presented before Senior Resident Magistrate Alice Towett.

Ms. Towett said she was not in a position to immediately determine whether she could release the accused on bond or not.

“On the question of bond and bond terms however this court will make its ruling on the 16th September 2.30pm. In the meantime, the accused shall be placed in custody at Nyamira police station,” she ruled.

Mr. Omayio was charged with defiling a secondary school student while knowing the girl was underage on September 2 and 3 at a guest house in Kisii town and a second count of committing an indecent act to a child.

The county lawmaker denied the charges.
