President Uhuru on Monday banned the sale of alcohol in restaurants and all eateries across the country while bars were ordered to remain closed indefinitely.

The nationwide curfew was also extended after the Covid-19 cases increased with 25 deaths recorded.

Addressing the nation, Uhuru said,

The surge in infections has continued and in some areas, notably Nairobi, it has accelerated sharply. Our concern is the surge of infections among young Kenyans affecting their elders.

He went ahead to urge citizens to stay safe and hold each other accountable.

If someone enters your shop, and you own the business, if he has no mask, insist that they wear one. We are living in abnormal times. Let us not think that we are special. Please, let us not follow examples we have seen across the world," he added.
