Death is so unforgiving. So unappreciative. It keeps on coming back for more lives. It's never satisfied. It's always thirsty. It keeps on striking back, time after another. And now it has strike again!

It must be a sad day for family and friends of long-serving Athletics Kenya president Isaiah Kiplagat, following his death this morning.

Kiplagat passed on after a long illness. Family members confirmed that the former AK President and former Managing Director of Post Bank passed on at 10.30am at his Karen home in Nairobi. Kiplagat has been unwell for years, but his condition became worse in the last four months.

He served athletics in various capacities for over 40 years. He served as a council member of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) between 1999 and 2015. Last year, he took a three  months sabbatical leave between May 31 and August 31 to concentrate on world athletics governing body International Associations of Athletics Federations (IAAF) elections where he vied for the post of Vice President but lost.

He was however suspended by IAAF in November the same year alongside two other senior athletics staff for allegedly subverting anti-doping processes and potentially diverting sponsorship funds from Nike.

Kiplagat was also accused of accepting, either personally or on behalf of Athletics Kenya, an “apparent gift” of two motor vehicles from the Qatar Association of Athletics Federations in the period between 2014 and 2015. During that time Doha was bidding to host the 2019 world championships.

May he rest in peace.
