Tension remains high In Mombasa’s Kiembeni area after villagers hired witchdoctors to conduct “Demonic" Rituals. The locals sort the help of witch doctors from Tanzania to cleanse their village of bad omen after it was allegedly cursed.

Some elderly men and women have fled the area for fears of being victimized and killed for the misfortunes facing the residents.They are accused of casting a bad spirit that has led to an upsurge of uncured diseases and unemployment and suffering of many youths who are jobless and “confused” despite them going to school.

In May 2013, the same village hit headline following the story of a cat whose head had been trapped in a jerrican and people refused to remove it because they believed it was a demon.The cat was finally rescued by the Kenya Society for Protection and Care of Animals. But in a strange twist, reports after the successful cat rescue mission, a man died in the area.
