Mugithii ya kortini: Man enters court singing, sent for psychiatric analysis

A man stunned a Nyeri court on Monday 15, February, when he entered the courtroom singing Kikuyu and Christian songs that even the court orderlies could not control.

Martin Waithaka from Mweiga location in Kieni West Sub-County, Nyeri County appeared before Principal Magistrate Nelly Kariuki charged with creating disturbance in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace.

Waithaka was arrested on February 12, this year as he barricaded the Nyeri-Nyahururu highway with stones and pelted members of the public.

The court ordered that the accused be taken for a psychiatric examination to determine his mental fitness to stand a trial or take the plea. The case is set for mention on February 19.

In the same court, a man who denied demanding sexual favours from a woman was released on a Sh50, 000 cash bail until March 4, 2021.

Joshua Mureithi is reported to have attempted a forced entry into Ms Rose Wahito's house on the midnight of February 9, this year, hurling insults at her and demanding sexual favours.

Mureithi from Kangaita village, Tetu sub-county, Nyeri County was also accused of destroying window panes worth Sh2, 000 during the incident.
