Police in Runyenjes are investigating the drowning of a 24 year- old man in a hotel’s swimming pool over the weekend.

Sources say Dennis Gitonga was in the company of his friends at Thuci river lodge had gone swimming when the incident happened on Saturday.

Embu east OCPD Peter Thenya said the boy was rescued from the pool by his colleagues after the hotel failed to provide a life saver guide.

John Kariuki said that those who were swimming with the deceased stumbled on his body in the pool.

Kariuki revealed that the hotel failed to provide a vehicle to rush Gitonga to hospital.

"The hotel management lacked any kind of means to save his life, they were calling for a motorcycle from the nearby Kathagere market when a well wisher offered her vehicle," he said.

Linet Murugi, another witness, noted that the pool was dirty hence making it hard to rescue the deceased.

She hinted that the hotel staff were using a rake to dig through mud that had settled at the base of the pool trying to rescue the merry maker.

Friends, relatives and family are yet to come to terms with the man’s death which according to his father, Michael Muriithi, could have been avoided.

The family is calling on the police to fast track investigations and ensure that justice is served.

The teary father blamed the hotel management over his son's death saying the facility did not have a swimming expert who would have saved his from drowning.
