Man Arrested For Faking His Identity As A Journalist And Conning Business People

A middle aged man was yesterday arraigned before a Homa Bay court for failing to raise a hotel bill amounting to 178,880 shillings.

Paul Adongo was charged with corning the manager of Homa Bay Tourist Hotel that he was organizing a trade exhibition in the area. The suspect is said to have camped, took his meals and slept at the hotel.

Before Homa Bay senior principal magistrate Thomus Obutu, the man is said to have mascaraed to be a local radio journalist and used the false identity to con clients cash with an aim of hosting their brands at the alleged trade exhibition.

The hotel management was alerted about his conducts after clients complained of the suspect asking for money from them. Adongo had also printed posters with logos of the county government of Homa Bay, the Kenya National Chamber of commerce and other private agencies.

His poster was supposedly targeting health institutions, government agencies and businesses for an exhibition he scheduled for the 4th to 6th of October this year.

Adongo was also charged with an attempt to defraud a woman twenty two thousand shillings while accommodated by the hotel.

The accused pleaded guilty of the offences and was freed on on a one hundred thousand shillings bond while denied cash bail.
