Ugandan woman Mariam Nabatanzi, 38, a single mother of 44 children recently left netizens shocked after she revealed the number of kids she has given birth to.

She was married off at the age of 12 and gave birth to her first children when she was 13, a set of twins. Mariam delivered all of her children through normal birth except the last born who was delivered via caesarean section.

The single mother of 44 in an interview with Citizen TV, revealed that she takes care of her children by herself and despite many asking her to be their surrogate, she has always refused.

"I take care of my children by myself. Others have asked me to give birth for them but I cannot do that," she said.

Mariam, who lives in Kabimbiri village, Mukono District in central Uganda, is among the few who've been victims of domestic violence and she went through hell for 25 years in the hands of her husband.

In a previous interview with the Daily Monitor she said;

"he beats me to a pulp when I try to reason with him over any issue, especially when he gets home drunk…the children hardly know who he is since he is an absent father who gives his children names over the phone and not physically," she lamented.

The man later and married other wives leaving her with the sole responsibility of raising the children alone.

The story of Mariam has been the talk of the town with many asking if she's aware of contraceptives.

In her defence, Mariam said:

I even visited several doctors to ask them to help me because I felt my fertility would kill me but they were unable to intervene.
