Kenya's film and music industry is slowly picking up. Reason being, some of the pioneers in are too greedy to share! Someone would rather maker 5 Million alone than making 20 Million in a group of four. That's the type of greediness I'm talking about.

I reached out to one of the fastest rising filmmakers in the country; Kevin Njue, whose film is doing great internationally.

According to Kevin, here are some of the biggest challenges upcoming filmmakers face in the industry.

"Well, we don't always face same issues but I'll speak for myself and talk about 3 things that affect me and a huge number of us.

As a writer, your job is to write a story and sell it to get produced. That's how very stable industries do. You just write.... Then sell. Sadly our industry is infant. There's no proper channels set up for selling stories or ideas.

As a producer, there are few resources available to make a film. Equipment hiring is darn expensive for some reason... Unlike other markets, hiring rates are relatively low. This is not a problem mainly the govt is involved as people complain, this is a needle our own making. Those with the equipment put high rates to kill of competition. They forget, in this business, there's room for everyone.

As a director, umm. Here's a hard one. Lack of knowledge is the main issue. Most upcoming filmmakers easily call themselves directors but do they know the scope of their job? It's not Shouting ACTION & CUT. There's alot more to it than it meets the eye."
