When I first saw that a man will be vying for a Women's Representative seat in the next general elections, I was quick to dismiss it as cheap banter initiated by Kenyans On Twitter (KOT).

As it turns out, I was wrong ladies and gentlemen because nothing could be further from the truth.

A man from Bungoma County has announced that he will be vying for the Women's Representative seat in the next general elections.

Webster Wechuli - who hails from Bukembe in Kanduyi constituency - says he will compete with other aspirants during the ODM nominations, gender notwithstanding.

He says he decided to vie for the seat because the current Women's Representative Dr Reginalda Nakhumicha has done very little in articulating the issues affecting women.

"I have realized that the current Woman Rep does not represent the interests of women at heart. She represents women without the needed passion. A man has a woman's interest at heart, with a passion. That man is Webster," He said.

Reports indicate that he has started distributing posters that show he will be vying for the seat in the 2017 general elections.

Webster believes he has an equal right to vie for it and represent his people the way MPs, MCAs are currently doing.

It will be interesting to see how this pans out being that the constitution expressly states that the seat is meant for: "47 women, each elected by the registered voters of the counties, each county constituting a single member constituency."
