A group of his die-hard fans on Facebook under the name Bungoma Liberation Movement came together and raised Ksh 30,000 for his coffin.
A facebooker heaped praise on an upcoming politician who mobilised people so sen in their contributions.
"Congratulations are awash throughout the county of Bungoma for 'woman of steel' Namalwa Chesoli who single-handedly mobilised keyboard lovers into making impromptu contributions towards the casket purchase for the late County comedian John Gift. The lady through a page Bungoma Liberation where she is one of the admins convinced members who within a short span raised enough for a decent casket."
Adding, "She linked up with the family of the deceased and made sure everything ran as anticipated. She is said to have been the first outsiders to arrive at Mbakalo the home of the late comedian just to see things off. Once again Kudos Madam Chesoli."
Bungoma MP Catherine Wambilianga paid tribute to John Gift saying, "As a county and youths at large, we have really lost a hero, a youth who so an opportunity in the use of talents to earn a living hence he promoted self-employment and promoted entertainment (Comedy) sector in our County. Hence as we mourn I urge all youths to follow the good example that John Gift set."
She continued, "On behalf of the people of Bungoma County, I convey my heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and relatives at large. May the Almighty God give strength to the family at this painful moment. May the Almighty rest his soul in eternal peace."
