President William Ruto's recent trip to the USA has raised some eyebrows online. Reason? The transport the head of state chose for the long trip.

Instead of the usual Fokker 70ER that is normally used by the president,  the commander-in-chief opted for a chartered Boeing 737-700 for his ongoing four-day US visit.

According to KTN News, the Abu Dhabi-based airline charges KSh 2.4 million per hour for its charter services.

With a total of Ksh 98 million, you may fly from Nairobi to Atlanta in 18 hours on a rented Boeing 737-700 from Royal Jet of Dubai rather than the usual presidential jet.

Ruto would spend almost Ksh 200 million on his journey if he included his flight from Atlanta to Washington.

Kenyans online have expressed outrage about Ruto's spending on the trip, which he was lambasted for.

The 26-seater Fokker 70ER, Harambee 1, was abandoned by Ruto because of its poor range, which limits it to only five hours of nonstop flight.

The awe-inspiring Boeing 737-700, on the other hand, can travel ultralong distances, surpassing the performance of most aircraft designed to fly for 10 to 12 hours daily
