Tired of working out? There may soon be a pill for that as scientists have created a medicine that replicates the physical boost of a workout.

US Experts have come up with a pill that mimics the benefits of getting a sweat on at the gym, which could treat health issues such as obesity and muscle atrophy and other age-related problems such as heart failure and declining kidney function.

According to Professor Bahaa Elgendy, of Washington University, the 'exercise pill' could be a beneficial mimic to people who can't exercise.

“Everyone knows that exercise is super-beneficial for the body and mind, but not everyone can exercise. Having exercise in a pill could be beneficial to mimic or enhance the effects for people who are aging, people with certain diseases, or who are facing muscle loss due to other drugs.

This could lead to the development of therapeutics for some of the most challenging diseases we are facing nowadays, like neurodegenerative diseases and heart failure.”

According to a study the new “exercise pill” could potentially replace some, not all, of the benefits of working out.

Elgendy added that the “exercise pill” could potentially counter the loss of both muscle and fat caused by other drugs, such as new weight-loss medications.

However, more testing needs to be done before the pill can be available for human use.

The scientists will be testing the compound in other animals as the next step in the research process.
