The Anglican Church in the Western region of Buganda in Uganda has hit the headlines after the leader of the church was quoted as announcing a ban on prayer services being held at funerals for believers who died before being baptized.
According to the Daily Monitor magazine, the church noted that the decision was aimed at reducing cases of priests arguing with leaders of different churches during the burial of members of the church.
According to the secretary of the Diocese, Pastor Moses Kayimba, the decision has been made by Bishop Henry Katumba of the Western Diocese of Buganda, Daily Monitor said.
"This is to ensure that things related to faith are conducted in the right way. During the days of the house, we have encountered similar incidents that led to this decision," Rev Kayimba was quoted as saying.
This was after the bishop was involved in resolving cases of priests arguing during the burial of some members of the church.
In addition, Reverend Kayimba explained that the move would help reduce the incidence of believers moving from one church to another and causing religious leaders to quarrel during the burial of those people.
"Like our citizenship, it is confirmed by the official identification given to all citizens. In the Anglican Church, every baptized Christian receives a baptism card to confirm his participation," said Pastor Kayimba according to the report.
