Breaking up is hard to do, but learning how to move on after you call it quits is just as difficult.

It is not impossible to move on after a relationship goes sour, but it's kind of hard.

The only stumbling block that is preventing people from moving on after a painful break-up is not knowing how to move on.

Below are tips that may help you move on and get you on with the rest of your life;

1. Feel the feelings

It’s normal to be emotionally raw after a breakup. Although these feelings can be overwhelming, you should remember that emotion comes in waves.

Accepting your feelings is part of the path to healing. You can acknowledge the sadness, anger, or fear that arises without handing these feelings over to your inner critic.

Remember that your feelings are acceptable, but the thoughts around the feelings, like “you’ll never find anyone else” or “you can’t live without him or her” are not.

2. Try new things and old ones, too

In the process of letting go, you will lose many things from the past, but you will find yourself.

One of the healthiest ways to move on is to find ways to connect to yourself as an individual.

If many things we like to do feel tied to our partner, we should seek out new activities and make new memories that are our own.

We can try taking a class, taking up a hobby, or eating at different restaurants anything that feels exploratory and unique.

3. Accept it

Before you can move on from a relationship that is no longer healthy, just accepting that the relationship was limited and it's over is very important.

4. Distance yourself

Since your heart is freshly wounded, seeing or contacting the person will just make everything worse.

Keeping your distance is very vital for your healing process to not only begin but to become complete.

5. Stop talking about them

While it's tempting to play the blame game after a breakup, it won't help you get over them.

Whether you blame him or yourself, going over and over hurtful scenarios only keeps you focused on negative emotions. So close the book on that chapter of your life and focus on figuring out how to move on.

 6. Learn from it

Part of learning how to move on from a breakup is learning from your experiences.

This includes the breakup and the entire relationship. Learn whatever lessons the relationship presented and focus on the bright future of love and possible healthy connections to come.
