Most people may look okay but deep inside they hate their jobs, even though they floss on social media with a lifestyle that is absolutely 'goals'.

According to branding coach Hannah Githuki, in the absence of life mapping, many parents are setting up their kids for a lifetime of misery.

More often than not, you find that the child’s career path is decided even before they are born.

Most parents prefer the child to follow a career path depending on their own success or failure or the path of someone influential to them who has succeeded in their path.

"It is important for parents to allow their children to build their own career paths," Said Hannah Githuki.

"By exposing the child to many activities, you give your child a better chance to discover what they are passionate about."

Growing up, children look up to their parents as role models in everything that they do.

Depending on what they are exposed to, they start to develop an individual response to certain things.

If a parent is determined to influence a child to a specific career path, this would mean that everything they expose the child to, leads to that particular path.

The problem comes in when the child develops their own personality and their interests defer from that of the parent.

A worst-case scenario would be if the child doesn’t develop an individual mindset and becomes reliant on the parent’s plan for their life.

The child develops codependency on the parent and defines themselves on their ability to succeed or fail.

In this case, they wouldn’t be doing it for themselves or for passion, but in order to please the parent. She says;

"There is a very big life difference between people who have had coaching & positive life mapping experiences and the ones who have no such experience.

The people who went through coaching make better choices and follow their passion and life’s purpose while developing individualism and living a more fulfilled life," she said.

Most millennials were forced into careers due to the pressure by their parents or lack of coaching and life mapping.

Most of them are stuck in jobs that they did not study for while some are unemployed.

Others decided to follow the path of passion after everything else failed. A lot of them have degrees and diplomas that they do not use.

"We are living in a more advanced world. The careers that were dubbed as important and influential in the past, are no longer so."

The personal branding coach added;

"With the new technology, most occupations have been replaced or reinvented."

Using Life Mapping as a qualitative narrative visual method following a person's life over a specified time period to the present day; enables a person to keep track of the life choices and habits that they have developed over time.

This way one can make changes and develop better habits that will lead to a more successful life. Coaching enables one to choose a career path that they are more likely to enjoy and succeed at.
