Government declares Monday a public holiday

The Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, Fred Matiang'i has declared Monday, December 27 a public holiday. 

The holiday has been created by dint of boxing day falling on a Sunday. 

"This day which is globally celebrated by exchange of gifts and engagement in sports offers another opportunity for Kenya to uphold its heritage of generosity and cultural diversity.

All citizens are encouraged to recognize and celebrate the day in a manner that promotes family values and social cohesion," read a statement from the Ministry of Interior. 

Kenyans will enjoy a long holiday weekend and have an extension of Christmas day celebrations.
