Many streets in Nairobi have been named for different purposes. Most of them have been named after prominent leaders especially from back in the day to commemorate their great work.
These roads are not so new to many of us.
Mbagathi road was recently renamed Raila Odinga way.
Minority Whip Peter Imwatok introduced the motion, saying deserving leaders should be recognized while they are alive, not when they die.
He said Raila, a presidential aspirant, has greatly improved the democratic and economic development of Kenya. However, Nairobi has no policy on naming streets, roads or buildings.
The road is currently called Atwoli road. The Nairobi County Government has named a road after Cotu Secretary General, Francis Atwoli. The road in Kileleshwa, near Kenya High School, was formerly called Dik Dik Road. Speaking on Thursday after the recognition, Atwoli said it was in honour of his service to Kenyan workers.
