A 30-year-old boda boda rider suspected of killing a businessman at Oridi village, Ndhiwa constituency in Homa Bay County eleven months ago has finally been arrested.
The suspect identified as David Omondi alias boss was nabbed Thursday night by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives from Ndhiwa Police station.
He was fished out from his hideout in connection with the murder of Joseph Ouma Obote in January 2021.
According to Ndhiwa Sub County Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Officer Paul Makonge, the suspect hit Obote using a blunt object before stealing his motorbike and disappeared to the neighbouring Tanzania.
Makonge said that the suspect was a hardcore criminal who has been carrying out various criminal activities in the region and threatening to kill any person who came out to reveal to authorities his whereabouts.
The DCI said that Omodi sneaked back into the country where he went and hid in Sindo Town, Suba Sub County and he was in constant communication with one of the officers at Ndhiwa Police Station requesting the officer to steal and burn his case file, with a promise of Sh50,000 reward.
However, the police officer he intended to bribe planned a meeting with the suspect at Kalamindi Trading Center Thursday, where he was arrested at midnight and taken to Ndhiwa police station.
The suspect will be arraigned in court next week to face the murder charges.
