Eliud Kipchoge crowned best male athlete

Marathon winner Eliud Kipchoge was crowned as the best male athlete of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. 

Kipchoge emerged the winner in the men's 30-kilometer marathon July 23, 2021, retaining his Olympic title in two hours, eight minutes and 38 seconds. 

On his social media, Kipchoge shared a picture of his award. 

He wrote;

"It is an honour to win the ANOC Award for the Best Male Athlete at the Tokyo Olympics. With so many beautiful performances by so many athletes, I am proud to be the recipient of this award.Thank you all for your great support!"

Kenya's Faith Kipyegon also contested for the Female World Athletes of the Year Award. 

However, the female athlete of the Tokyo Olympics was awarded to Canadian Maggie Mac Neil, who participated in a swimming competition. 

Mac Neil claimed Canada's first gold medal at the Tokyo Games by capturing the women's 100-metre butterfly in 55.59 seconds.
