“It happened that the Toyota Axio Saloon vehicle registration number KCU 359T driven by James Ndungu, 35, that was heading towards the Narok side lost control and veered off the road on the right side and later rolled severally before landing on its wheels,” said the police commander.

He said the young girl who was walking home from school was accidentally knocked by the rolling vehicle and sustained both legs fractures and lower chin injuries.

She was rushed to Narok County Referral hospital for treatment where she is reported to be in good condition.

Also on board in the Toyota vehicle were two female passengers aged 25 and 28 years old who complains of headaches and backache. They were treated and discharged to the same facility.

The vehicle is detained at Narok town police station awaiting an inspection report.

Cases of accidents along highways in Narok County have been rampant in the recent past as drivers take advantage of the smooth highways to speed.

The police have however warned the motorists to be vigilant while approaching built-up places, schools and churches to avoid causing accidents.

Early this year, the Narok traffic department and the Narok branch Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) teamed up to educate the motorists on the need to observe a speed limit of fewer than 30 kilometres per hour while driving near towns and marketplaces.

The seven days campaign reached out to boda boda operators, taxi drivers, matatu operators and private vehicles who were asked to be watchful while plying along the smooth roads.
