A 23-year-old man lost his life in a road accident along Homa Bay- Kendu Bay road when the motorcycle he was riding on hit a stationary lorry yesterday at 9.30 pm.

The deceased identified as Walter Ongiri who hailed from Central Kochia was with his 35-year-old brother Paul Ongiri as they headed to the Olare area within Homa Bay County a few minutes before curfew hours.

Ongiri hit the stationary lorry, a Mitsubishi, on the right rear side causing the accident at Got Bondo trading centre. It is reported that the lorry was having mechanical issues and had stopped to have its tire changed.

Confirming the incident, Homa Bay Sub-County Police Commander Sammy Koskei said that the driver of the lorry had indicated using reflector lights that the lorry was stationary.

“The driver of the motorcycle died on the spot after sustaining serious injuries in the head while his brother was rushed to Homa Bay County Referral Hospital in a critical condition,” noted the administrator.

He further revealed that Paul also died today morning while receiving treatment at the county hospital.

The Sub County Commander said that one of the brothers (Walter) had left home earlier that evening with the motorcycle to pick up the other who had just arrived from Nairobi.

He urged the area motorcycle riders to take caution while on the road especially at night. The two bodies are at Homa Bay county teaching and referral hospital morgue.
