Citizen TV host Willis Raburu has shared how breaking a work protocol ended up landing him a job.

The father of two was an intern then but his determination to cover a story made his boss reconsider what would have been considered a form of disrespect.

Instead of being punished Raburu ended up being promoted.

Sharing a TBT photo of himself, he shared,

'This picture means so much to me, I was an intern and we broke protocol (of course with permission from my mentor and then boss @opondopeter ) to go and cover this story “Rite Of Passage” This is the story that launched my career in media.

Together with @sshitera and @mohamedmahmudm, we did our best because we knew all eyes were on us, we took a risk, 11 years later by the grace of God we are still here, growing daily.

God is truly amazing. Take the risk, do what others are not, be good or be good at it, pray and work. Successful people look like you. BAZU!

The Maasai are arguably Africa's most famous tribe. Unlike most other Kenyan ethnic groups, they have largely retained their traditional lifestyles. Each Maasai man goes through the warrior stage, a period in their life between boyhood and becoming a man. And one can only become a warrior through several rituals. Willis Raburu has the details in this first part of our series, rites of passage.

Have you ever taken a risk that ended up being a blessing in disguise?
