Why are so many Kenyans praying for Betty Kyallo's new love to end?

Betty Kyallo has finally supplanted Amber Ray as the trending female celebrity this past week. And the reason for that? Duh! Her love life...

The mother of one is as famous right now as she was when she was being linked to a certain governor for their alleged relationship. (Yes, that alleged affair was more popular than anything she did with Denis Okari).

But since then her relationships have been nothing much to write about as the men have not had that "Star" quality to keep fans interested.

But her new catch, the bearded lawyer Nick Ndeda is that and much more. The well-dressed advocate has that "Wow" factor among her legion of fans.

They can now dream and hope for Betty's relationship with this eligible bachelor to go the distance.

But while most Kenyans might have the best wishes for the former TV anchor, a sizable number of Kenyan haters have also emerged.

The "Mtaachana" crew are back in full force, now that their other "successful" project of Amber Ray and Jamal Rohosafi has sunk like the Titanic.

And my question is this? Why are there people in this world who are so interested in seeing a person fail?

Is it jealousy, envy, hate? I think it is all the things I have mentioned. But I believe that the Germans have a much better word to describe this phenomenon. That word is Schadenfreude.

What is it and why does it exist?

It is the experience of pleasure, joy, or self-satisfaction that comes from learning of or witnessing the troubles, failures, or humiliation of another.

Schadenfreude is a complex emotion where, rather than feeling sympathy, one takes pleasure from watching someone's misfortune, one takes pleasure from blaming, pinpointing, or hurting someone.

This emotion is displayed more in adults than children, especially those who feel insecure, have less self-esteem or have mental issues.

However, children also experience schadenfreude, although generally, they conceal it.

Researchers have found that there are three driving forces behind it are, aggression, rivalry, and justice.

So if you are one of the "Mtaachana" crew, now you know why you are the way you are...
