A section of African men is opposed to their wives using contraceptives to control birth.

This is the case for a man in Kakamega County who believes that his wife should not take contraceptives, but instead, give birth to up to 22 children.

Speaking to TV 47, 30-year-old Gentrix Wekesa revealed that she gives birth nearly every year.

"Just after I start my periods, I get another pregnancy. Even currently I am 3 months pregnant. Yet my child is barely one year old," she narrated.

As the sole breadwinner of the family, Gentrix understands the hardships of having many children.

But her husband has prohibited her from using modern family planning methods.

"I have 20 children. I don't support this issue of family planning, Nataka tu aongeze ukikosa watoto wanakucheka," Gentrix's husband explained.

The mother of 10 has tried to convince her husband to embrace contraceptives, but he refused.

One time, Gentrix got a contraceptive and this made her husband hostile, forcing her to remove it.

She explained;

"I went to the hospital and asked the nurse, she said I put it(Implanon) and see whether he will chase me.

I took the 3 years Implanon, when I came, he asked me. 'what is this you have.' I told him I will just give birth, but he should allow me to take care of the ones I have first.

He beat me up until i went back to remove it. We went with him, he lectured the nurse, warning her of spoiling people's wives. So i decided to give birth as he wishes."
