Five mourners perished along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway on Tuesday evening following an accident involving their personal car and a Canter.

Four died on the spot during the accident at Ihindu center in Naivasha while the driver passed on while undergoing treatment at Naivasha sub-county hospital.

Two women who were in the ill-fated car were admitted in critical condition at Naivasha sub-county hospital following the accident near Ihindu trading center in Naivasha.

The accident occurred after the personal car which was overtaking rammed head-on into the incoming trailer killing four on the spot.

According to Naivasha OCPD Samuel Waweru, initial investigations indicated that the driver of the personal car was to blame for the accident.

He said that the driver left the climbing lane on his way to Nairobi before ramming into the incoming lorry that was headed in the opposite direction and had two occupants.

“We have come to learn that the seven were mourners who had attended a friend’s burial and were on their way to Nairobi when the accident occurred,” he said.

Waweru added that the bodies of the five had been identified, adding that the other two victims were admitted in ICU in critical condition.
