A sombre mood engulfed Koyolo Village in  Rangwe Sub County this morning after an Early Childhood Development Education tutor at Magul Primary School was shot dead under unclear circumstances.

The teacher identified as Clinice Atieno Ojenge was killed in her home in Gem East Location last night during an attack in which her 9-year-old daughter also suffered bullet wounds

Rangwe Sub County Police Commander Joseph Okuna confirmed the incident saying that the criminals confronted and fired three bullets into the 40-year-old teacher adding that the motive of the murder was yet to be established.

The deceased’s mother-in-law Teresa Adera said she first heard the sound of three-gun shots and wondered what was happening.

"When I moved to my son’s house, I found my daughter-in-law lying in a pool of blood with a spoon in her hand,” said Adera.

The police boss said that the incident was reported to the police by the deceased's husband earlier today morning.

Okuna said the 9-year-old girl was first taken to Asumbi Mission hospital before being transferred to Kisii Level Five hospital where she was admitted following a bullet that entered and lodged in her belly.

The husband claimed that he knew the identity of the criminals and appealed to the law enforcement agencies to track them down and ensure they were brought to book for the law to take its course.

Police sources said preliminary investigations revealed that the criminals were targeting a motorcycle belonging to the family.

Homa Bay Sub-County Director of Criminal Investigations Officer Monica Berege said investigations into the incident were underway.

The body of the deceased was ferried to Homa Bay County Referral hospital mortuary pending an autopsy.
