A 75-year-old man has committed suicide in Kyosini village, Mbooni East Sub-county.

Pius Mutua Masai hanged himself on a tree using a rope on Thursday night. Before the incident, he set ablaze his living room, and cereal and fodder stores, where property valued at over Sh500,000 was destroyed.

“The man became violent and while armed with a panga he chased away his wife and three grandchildren from the homestead and thereafter hanged himself on a mango tree,” said Makueni County Police Commander Mr. Joseph Ole Naipeyan Friday.

Police have launched investigations into the incident, while the body of the deceased was moved to Kalawa Health Centre mortuary awaiting autopsy.
