Kazi ni kazi or so they say, and that has been so true for some celebrities who have had to do odd jobs like riding trucks and taxis to make ends meet.

Like gold, they had to pass through the fire to be refined. Here the celebrities who did not turn out a job on their way to stardom.

  1. Maina Kageni

Prominent radio personality Maina Kageni used to work as a truck driver in the UK at age 21.

At the time, Maina had left Kenya for the UK to study, but as it turned out, he never set foot into a lecture hall.

After arriving in the UK, he began working as a truck driver and fish distributor for a Chinese firm.

He is now among the most prominent radio presenters in Kenya.

Nyashinski

The rapper whose real name is Nyamari Ongegu got a chance to relocate to Delaware, USA, in 2006.

By then he had quit his music career so he became a truck driver when he moved abroad.

 Speaking on his YouTube channel he revealed,

 "When we moved abroad, I had completely quit music. I was working back in the States as a truck driver," he said.

I USED TO DRIVE A LORRY, TRYING TO SURVIVE."

The 'Malaika' hitmaker says the first two years he was in Delaware, before he moved to Michigan.

"That experience taught me a lot. Two things that were life-changing for me back then was one, when I was here, I was a star," he said.

"People recognized me everywhere and we were doing what we loved.

I moved from a place where I was known and getting a bit of favours here and there to a place where no one knows me."

3. Akothee

Although she did not drive a truck, Akothee who is a mother of five used to be a taxi driver before she propelled to fame.

Like they say, never let your past determine your future.
