In recent years, the stresses of modern living have placed added a strain on romance.

Maintaining a healthy and happy partnership with your significant other requires commitment, time and compromise - something many couples struggle with.

One anonymous male writer recently shared the story of his failed marriage and explained why he left his 'perfect life' with a 'lovely wife, two beautiful children, a big house and a good job'  for a woman ten years his junior.

In his frank admission, the man claimed that having kids 'changed everything' between him and his 'very genuine, attractive' and funny spouse.

Praising his now ex-wife's ability as a mother, he went on to say that the 'incredible love and dedication' she showed to their children meant 'there was nothing left for me and we drifted apart'.

The man revealed how he was left feeling neglected and overlooked by his partner due to the demands of raising two small children.

According to the poster, the connection he craved was more emotional than physical but over the space of 12 months, a friendship with a younger female work colleague developed into a sexual relationship.

The affair gave him things he 'hadn't done in years' like talking all night, spending the day in bed and just being together sharing life experiences.

Reasons given for his infidelity included his wife's lack of interest in either conversation or intimacy, as well as her choice to 'boil and puree vegetables' for their kids' lunches instead of spending time with him.

Despite his indiscretions, the writer said: 'I've never strayed before, I'm a very loyal person – I don't see the point of being with someone if you're not wholly committed to them.'

His clandestine affair-turned-relationship didn't last forever, and the man broke things off with his new girlfriend because of issues relating to her anxiety which he said caused him to 'lose confidence'.

As to the reason for sharing his story, the man urged women to recognize their partner's emotional needs as males are more prone to feelings of loneliness and isolation given there is 'a lot of pressure on them to provide'.

There are many amazing mums out there but ask yourself…what's more important, making sure that every need or want of your child is attended to, or spending quality time with your husband?
