On Wednesday this week, three Kenyan journalists were hurt in the line of duty, after hooligans hurled stones at a political convoy.

The convoy, belonging to Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero was attacked by goons at the infamous Dandora estate in Nairobi's Eastlands.

According to the governor, the errant youth attacked his convoy for allegedly failing to give them money!

As the political campaigns for the upcoming General Elections heat up, such violent instances might become synonymous with the campaigning activities.

In Nairobi especially, a few areas have historically been mapped out as being highly prone to politically instigated violence.

Mpasho has singled out these seven Nairobian estates and slums, where political hooliganism is more likely to be experienced - although we all hope for the opposite.

Kayole

This sub-urban part of Nairobi Eastlands, Kayole estate is widely known for all the wrong reasons. Violent criminal gangs, unruly matatu crews and murder cases are just some of the things that make Kayole "stand out" amongst other estates in Nairobi. Kayole is in Embakasi Central Constituency and over the years, it has experienced all sorts of political intolerance among rival factions.

Kariobangi North

This part of Nairobi is in Embakasi North Constituency. It boarders Korogocho slums and Dandora estate. Over the years, Kariobangi North has always been at the centre of violence provoked by politics. If you're headed that way, watch out.

Mathare

Both the Mathare slums and Mathare North in Mathare Constituency, are known to be hotbeds for political strife. One is more likely to get stoned to death here when you find yourself in the opposing political faction than being knocked down by a speeding mkokoteni!!

Kibera

Residents of the second largest slum in Africa have for many years engaged in riotous behaviour fueled by political activities in the area. Just ask Uganda President Yoweri Museveni. His country felt the brunt of the effects, when the residents 'uprooted' the railway line which passes right through the expansive ghetto, crippling the transportation of essential commodities to Uganda for weeks. Kibera is in Kibra Constituency.

Mukuru slums

Mukuru has nine villages Mukuru Kwa Reuben, Mukuru Kwa Njenga, Sinai, Paradise, Jamaica, Kingstone, Mariguini, Futata Nyayo and Kayaba. The villages are found in three different constituencies; Embakasi South, Makadara and Starehe. They join to form a melting pot of politically based opinions which in turn, often spark cases of unruly behaviour. They are definitely places to look out for during this period.

Githurai 45

Hii place ni ngori!! Githurai 45 along the Thika Superhighway is known for its high crime rates, unruly matatu crews as well as being a supercharged playground of political rivalries. You must exercise utmost caution if you get yourself caught up in political whatnots while in this area of Ruiru Constituency!!

Dandora

Beware. Enough said.
