For a guy like me, telling the difference between Brazilian and Indian hair has always been a problem. I must admit that despite the fact that I have many female friends who are stylish, I haven't hacked this: telling the difference between the various types of human hair.

Most times, you won’t easily notice the difference between Indian and Peruvian hair or Malaysian and Brazilian hair until you wear it for a couple of weeks. These types of hair react differently to water, heat or air drying.

Well, the guys at BeautyClick, a leading Kenyan company dealing with human hair have helped me put things into perspective.  Here's what they had to say about the various human hair types:

The similarities

Virgin Indian, Peruvian, Malaysian or Brazilian hair types all have minimal shedding and tangling. So long as it’s 100% virgin human hair, all these types should be able to resist heat damage, be colored and straightened however you like. The colors of virgin hair are usually not even throughout the bundle. You may notice some strands are slightly lighter or darker than others. This is typically normal. What you need to be looking out for is 100% virgin human hair whether it’s Peruvian, Indian or Brazilian. This is the only way you’ll be guaranteed of high quality.

Indian hair is much like Brazilian hair in terms of texture. It’s very soft to touch and comes in a range of colors. This hair has the following characteristics:

  • Straightens and curls very easily
  • Holds curls well but the curls usually loosen slightly overtime
  • Avoid using very oily sprays as it will make the hair very shiny and appear fake
  • It’s not too shiny so it blends amazingly well with African hair

Hair drying can be used for all three types of hair. To avoid drying out the hair or making it look frizzy, use alcohol free products and serums. DO NOT apply heavy oils on the hair as this can cause tangling. After washing the human hair weave, try to use a moisturizing leave in conditioner.
