47-year-old Daniel Kabucho threw himself into a well near his family home in Kabete, Kiambu county on Saturday rather than pay more extortion money for an ex-girlfriend in Mombasa.

According to his father, the Nairobi-based businessman had allegedly made several payments totalling to Sh700,000 after selling household items and cows, but the demands increased and he received death threats.

Kabochu's neighbours noticed his clothes and shoes nearby and called the police who later found out that he had acquired a loan from a former girlfriend in Mombasa.

The amount of the loan was not revealed.

His father also said that he did not tell anyone about the death threats until the callers demanded for more money.
